Every memory edit has a cost. Below the threshold: seamless, undetectable, permanent. Above it: the subject retains traces, anomalies surface, witnesses start comparing notes. The Silver Editor's edit on the Platform Guard was below threshold. Whatever happened to The Double-Thinker is not. Something — or someone — is raising the threshold ceiling for certain subjects.
